El 2 de Agosto se inaugurará la exposición "Tipitapa en las Zonas Francas" en la Casa de los Tres Mundos en Granada. Esa será la primera exposición en Nicaragua después de cuatro presentaciones en Austria.

Eröffnung Tipitapa en las Zonas Francas in Linz

Die Ausstellung Tipitapa en las Zonas Francas ist endlich in Linz zu sehen! Eröffnung ist am Donnerstag, den 22. Juni 2006 um 18 Uhr auf der Johannes Kepler Universität.

Ich werde zur Eröffnung durch die Ausstellung führen und etwas über die Hintergründe schildern, wie es zu diesem Projekt kam.

Free Trade Hypocrisy

Andrew Leonard closes his article on the hypocrisy of current free trade politics with this insight by Friedrich List, a 19th century German economist:

"It is a very clever common device that when anyone has attained the summit of greatness, he kicks away the ladder by which he has climbed up, in order to deprive others of the means of climbing up after him ... Any nation which by means of protective duties and restrictions on navigation has raised her manufacturing power and her navigation to such a degree of development that no other nation can sustain free competition with her, can do nothing wiser than to throw away these ladders of her greatness, to preach to other nations the benefits of free trade, and to declare in penitent tones that she has hitherto wandered in the paths of error, and has now for the first time succeeded in discovering the truth."

Visum pickt im Reisepass, Flüge sind gebucht. Im August fange ich bei Development Seed in Washington, DC an. Development Seed arbeitet an IT und Web Lösungen für Entwicklungszusammenarbeits-Projekte. Ich freue mich schon auf die Arbeit in dem kleinen, engagierten Team!

The Parkhotel in Ottensheim

On May, 5th Andi Strauss and Gunda Wiesner opened in Ottensheim their Parkhotel for the second summer.

Guests stay in the Parkhotel in one of three adapted wastewater pipes. What sounds a bit spartanic is in fact a very comfortable housing: the concrete pipes are more than two meters in diameter, the double bed in it is more than cosy and the thick concrete walls are cool on hot days and isolate in fresh Austrian summer nights.

Tipitapa en las Zonas Francas Starts April 21

On April 21, 2006 the exhibition Tipitapa en las Zonas Francas finally starts with an inauguration in the Latin American Institute in Vienna. After that it will go to to three more cities in Austria and through Germany. Parallelly we'll start the tour in Nicaragua. There will also be one show in New Orleans' Tulane University (Stone Center for Latin American History)

Bar Bot am STRP!

Der Bar Bot wird für das STRP Festival in Eindhoven auf Vorderrobot gebracht. Von 24. bis 26. März wird dort frech um Münzen geschnorrt. Siehe Details auf http://humanoid.roboticslab.org !

Sonderwirtschaftszone statt Freihandelszone

Die Finanzierung für die Ausstellung über Sonderwirtschaftszonen in Nicaragua ist gesichert. Der Name steht damit auch endgültig fest: "Tipitapa en las Zonas Francas - Bilder, Geschichten, Fakten und Träume aus dem Nicaragua der Sonderwirtschaftszonen".

Der Begriff "Freihandelszone" war zu irreführend. In erster Linie werden damit internationale Handelsabkommen wie zum Beispiel Mercosur oder CAFTA-DR verbunden. Das Wort "Sonderwirtschaftszone" ist zwar ein Ungetüm, beschreibt aber am präzisesten das, worum es in der Ausstellung geht: eine an ein Territorium oder einen Betrieb gebundene steuergesetzliche Ausnahmeregelung.
